Spirits of the Ebon Flame

Whenever a Flame dies; his soul does not find peace in the afterlife. Instead, he is pulled back into the mortal world, chained to Elune's ancient gift for all eternity, destined to aid his living brethren. The ancient founders willingly accepted this curse, considering it a way of atoning for their sins they've committed against the lands by conspiring with the Burning Legion.

These ghosts exist in a realm between life and death, forever chained to the burning Ebon Flame. Only the Keeper has the power to call them to the Order's aid and for millennia these wise spirits have been the advisors of the Keepers. Although only the Keeper is capable of directly communicating with these spirits, occasionally they may choose to reveal themselves to ordinary members, assisting them in their battles.

With Thalos's betrayal, the Lich King managed to exact his dominion over the spirits of the Ebon Flame, turning these noble souls into relentless weapons against the living.

The Order of the Ebon Flame's triumph over the Lich King finally released the Spirits from his relentless grip. Despite the Knight's monumental victory, however, the Spirits did not return to the Order. Although Thalos has redeemed himself by slaying the Lich King, the damage he has done to the Eternal Flame is irrepaiarble and the bindings that held the spirits in our world has faded. Thus the spirits left the Order, in search for peace in the afterlife.
