Tanking
A Deathknight tank wearing one piece of frost resist plate and with the acclimation talent can hit 366 frost resistance while easily remaining +def capped. This removes the frost damage healing load on the tank, which makes the hard hitting boss quite a bit easier to handle. Additionally, deathknights can gain quite a lot of their cooldowns back during the flying phase, meaning that during the physical damage phase, they are far harder targets than tanks which rely on passive mitigation or longer cooldowns.
Recommend a frost specced DK tank for this fight, all other things being equal.
Melee DPS
To melee DPS: ¨Note that due to his massive hitbox the area for melee to hit him safely is quite small and located near his hind legs¨
Cleave wiping you out is probably not a tanking problem. He cleaves for 15k on plate, so don't stand there. Beware tail swipe also.
Ranged DPS
The thing to look out for mostly is his Chill, or Blizzard.
It's a spell that looks like Blizzard and does exactly the same, AoE damage and slowing. It's area seems odd and moves quite a bit. It is most important to spread in phase 1 and move away from it when it gets close. It moves really slow but it slows you really bad and ticks for quite a lot of damage once it hits. So don't get caught by it!
Also remember that you can keep DPSing in the Flight Phase untill the 2nd or 3rd ice block is cast on a raid member.
Flight Phase
He does two things when in the air, Iceblocks and a 'Lulz i kill you!' AoE at the end. He can still be attacked with ranged attacks in the meantime though.
First, he casts 3 iceblocks on random players in the raid, a few seconds between each. Next to create the much needed 'pillar' to avoid the AoE at the end, it also does an AoE of about 8-10k to anyone within 5-10 foot of it. Only after the third iceblock he starts casting his massive AoE, that is shown as a slow moving icey ball in the middle of the room.
Now, what not to do in this phase?
Do not all move to the first iceblock that spawns. Chances are big he spawns a second in that same group and maybe even a third. That will kill nearly everyone there. Also, his Blizzard is still up in the air phase and that iceblock may be in the middle of it.
What to do?
Everyone should stay slightly spread untill just before/after the third iceblock. Look around to see if one of the two iceblocks already cast is safe to go to (no Blizzard) and make plans to go to one of them the moment the third hits. Stand in the Blizzard if you have to to avoid the massive AoE at the end but look quickly for other options.
Doing this will greatly decrease the amount of AoE damage the raid gets in the Flight Phase and therefore will reduce the number of deaths. If you aren't confident about making the iceblock before the AoE hits, move after the second iceblock. But NEVER move to the first iceblock, unless if it spawns on a person right next to you.
Also, anyone with a ranged attack can keep doing damage as long as they aren't behind an iceblock. Just remember to cut off any attack and RUN after the 3rd iceblock landed.
