Physical Appearance

Normal complexion; enjoys the outdoors. Surprisingly toned but, not athletic. Soft hands, goose fat is good for the skin, don’t you know. No tattoos, find them too populist.

Personality

Never says what she is really thinking up front, and sometimes simply uses her choice not to comment to make her point for her. Has a disarming, almost childish personality at times. That’s not to say, selfish or brattish, but innocent and curious.

Background

Brill, the Beginning

Deva’s family were humble but happy. Landlords of the Gallow’s End Tavern in Brill, Tirisfal Glade, Lordaeron her father was respected locally, but no-one special. He did however, marry out of his league when Deva’s mother passed through the town staying at the inn for a few nights, she ensnared him. Smitten, she decided to stay. Their marriage was fruitful, blessed with three children; Furia, Deva and Seja. Even from an early age, it was obvious that Deva possessed her mother skill with magic and, with her home tuition, it wasn’t too long before her talents were eclipsing the local professional magic users. Her parents actively encouraged her development until it was possible to send her away to receive a formal education in the mage city of Dalaran.

Dalaran, the City of Means

When she first arrived in Dalaran to begin her studies it became obvious that they did not usually enrol students as young as her. It wasn’t until she trounced, nigh humiliated, her fellow initiates at the entrance exams that people respected this was no ordinary applicant. To begin with, Dalaran was about study for Deva, and study she did. The rest of her life could wait. She had so much time then, and for 5 years she feverishly developed her abilities. Every book was gutted and tossed aside. ‘Theory now, practice later’, she would tell herself. To Deva, this was the time to lay foundations, not decorate the parapets.

Silvermoon, City of Sin

Impressed with her dedication to study, lecturers arranged for Deva to spend periods of time in Silvermoon, usually holiday periods when students would ordinarily return home. Deva appreciated these excursions because it gave her the opportunity to study magic that would otherwise be restricted or unavailable in Dalaran. The then High Elves, took a different view on what could be considered dangerous and Deva found that information could be got with relative easy, if you knew how. She learnt enough Thalassian to get by, but never bothered to master the language at the time. This was a decision she would come to regret. The pace of her ambition took its toll on Deva, however. Perhaps the mages of Dalaran were right, if for the wrong reasons. She seemed to become less interested in her work and more interested in other things, other things that an ordinary 17 year old girl would be interested in. What she lost in respect from the teachers, she made up for in popularity with the other student becoming an ‘it girl’. She was still achieving, but amazing the teachers like she once did. She declined opportunities to carry out research, work on dissertations with other academics who felt snubbed by her apparent indifference.

Azeroth

Following the fall of Dalaran and the Lordaeron, Deva turned her attention southward to the one of the remaining open human kingdoms, Stormwind. She has not real loyalty to her home nation, maybe because of her mother’s unknown background or possibly because she travelled so widely. Like many, her skills were put to good use here, and she quickly seduced by the lifestyle of the adventurer, uncovering the threat of the Defias Brotherhood and Black Dragonflight alliances and the resurgence of troll gods to the south in Zul’Gurub. Each new threat gave way to another, from the Cult of the Damned in Scholomance to the Opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, she faced them with any heroes she could gather. But, with each experience she gained something that could not be got individually though the study of books or conquered through feats of strength in the world. She gained wisdom, and started questioning the cavalier nature of justice and freedom in the world.

Outland

Northrend

Return to Dalaran, the City of Ends

For sometime before the moving of the city, Deva was aware that the Dalaran had recovered its power and could not understand the delay in the removal of the protective magic shield. Illidan was defeated, the Horde and Alliance forces were cooperating successfully at the Sunwell but, it was only a matter of time before old habits took over, and the isolated petty skirmishes between the two factions grew into full, hate-fuelled campaigns. She got her wish in the wake of some of the worst news imaginable. Now a formidable mage, in practice and theory thanks to her experiences, Deva was quick to re-establish ties with Dalaran. She was pleased to see old acquaintances still there that had not been shut up in isolation for the past few years. Her name was remembered and her adventures in Azeroth and Outland watched. The Kirin tor themselves were quick to find allies to help in the struggles going on in Northrend. As such she was given the task of assessing a Death Knight of the Ebon Blade for entry to the deepest vaults of the Dalaran archives. Unbeknowest to them, but beknowest to us, this Death Knight was none other than her own sister Seja Victrix, although it is probably best to say it was what was left of her sister, for her mind was twisted and her soul faded, thin, listless.

The Eye of Eternity

Malygos the Spell-weaver, with his flight restored, but mind broken, had partially emerged from his insanity and declared total war on mortal magic users and any who would aid them. At first Deva was taken aback by this development, thinking that any resistance against the Aspect would be futile. However, after seeking the council of her friend and fellow mage, Nariac Ebonlock of Darkshire, she rallied and matched herself against the Steward of Magic. For her drive into the Eye, she was awarded the title of Archmage. She largely considers it a ceremonial title, bestowed for political reasons rather than gallantry. She chose to style herself ‘of Dalaran’ rather than ‘of the Alliance’ to the dismay of commanders in Stormwind feeling it less inflammatory.
