Ana'rathiel Firesoul

Originally Ana'rathiel Moonwhisper. He was one of the noble Highborne during the Age of the Ancients and a loyal subject of Queen Azshara. A powerful mage and an adept fighter, he always kept his nation's best interest in front of his eyes. Unlike most of his Highborne brethren he did not look down upon his countrymen of the lower castes, on the contrary he saw them as important members of the Kaldorei society. His liberal views on Kaldorei society often lead to confrontation with the older, more traditional members of the ruling caste. Therefore he preferred to stay away from Highborne politics as much as he could, focusing his efforts on magical studies instead.

When Queen Azshara announced to her closest subjects the arrival of their new god, Sargeras, Ana'rathiel was amongst the loudest of her supporters. He saw in the arrival of this magnificent being the beginning of a new age for the Kaldorei race, one where social differences are no more, where all of his countrymen are treated as equals.

By the time he realized his terrible error in judgement and saw Sargeras and his minions for what they truly were, it was too late. The terrifying demons of the Burning Legion had already begun devouring ancient Kalimdor, ending all life in their wake. Desperately trying to set things right, he and his followers turned their backs on their new god, frantically praying to Elune for forgiveness and beginning to perform ancient magical rituals in hopes of finding a way to stop the Burning Legion.

History is unclear on whether it was the result of their magical rituals or whether the goddess actually listened to their plight, but they were granted The Ebon Flame, a mystical source of ancient power that would allow them to battle the Burning Legion. Nurturing the Flame to unleash its fullest potential, Ana'rathiel and his Highborne allies have all bound their souls to the mystical fire, taking a solemn vow to the very lands of ancient Kalimdor that they would atone for their sins and protect the world from the Burning Legion and any malice that might ever threaten it.

On that day the Order of the Ebon Flame was born and Ana'rathiel Moonwhisper abandoned his old family and took on the name of Firesoul, becoming the first Keeper of the Ebon Flame.

Ana'rathiel Firesoul died during the War of the Ancients, giving his life for Azeroth. His spirit never left the world, however and to this day he still resides on Azeroth, forever bound to the Ebon Flame, offering guidance and aid to the warriors of his Order.

Alongside the other Spirits of the Flame, Ana'rathiel left the Order after Lich King's defeat in search for peace in the afterlife.
